Modest Nandi

I am at heart a modest game creator. I have a minor talent to put together these little games, but I don’t think I do anything that anyone else couldn’t succeed with if they had the time or effort. I do not think I have the writing and defiantly not the graphic abilities to produce a really excellent game. Now I’m not above having my ego stroked, I don’t think that anyone doesn’t want good thing to be said about their stuff, it’s just I’ve always had modest aims for my games and my blogs.

So I’m quite happy to only have four followers and a modest number of visitors to this little corner to the web. I’ve also had one nice person donate to me, who I choose to believe was THE Decker, and now Amazeroth has very kindly draw me a piece of fan art which I love and will now use everywhere. It helps a little that I’ve let everyone down by not actually finishing anything; I don’t think I’m worth the praise until I produce a finish product.

There is one advantage of being overshadowed by greater talents; I’ve never yet been given overly negative comments. Now don’t get me wrong criticism isn’t bad, and a well constructive criticism of something can be useful. It sometime more useful to have someone tell you what they think isn’t working in something than a generic what a “great job” message. I’ve always encouraged people to tell me what they thought of my stuff including the negatives, suggestions and bug fixes / typo seem to drive me to carry on working on my games. Actually anything that reminds me of a game will generally have the desired results anyhow. I’ve known of at least one game that been bought to a halt, and possibly killed for good, by negative comments of this game isn’t what I wanted and I think it suck now.

But don’t worry whilst my energy to write might wax and wane it’ll take a lot to make me stop doing this completely.

This is a massive distraction from the fact that I’ve done almost nothing on Bimbo. It’s mostly because the next bit is a fiddly bit of code that isn’t difficult but just involves lots of time and effort. It’ amazing the thin that you’ll find to distract you when stuff like this show up. But I’ve just renewed my RAGS license and I’m going to be diving into the guts of the code anytime soon. And hopefully it won’t take a whole month before I post anything her either.

Retro Nandi

...or Why Nandi shouldn't be allowed to look at her old games.

It's said that Director's are never satisfied with there  films, they only run out of time. Game creator are much the same.

Recently I've had to look at old games for various reason, mostly because they were broke, but a few because people just mentioned they liked them. Usually I can see where things could have been different and better. Mainly in the writing I'd like to think that over time my writting has improved from terrible to merely bad :).

The reason I'm posting is because Phyross pointed out that one of my old games Office Politic wasn't working write. So I thanked them and went on to fix the game.

And that should be that but then I thought, well it shares the same setting as How to get Promoted so couldn't I use the same pictures? About 48 hour later my simple fix has turned into a new picture filled version of the game with a few new bug fixes and even extra content.

I've been looking at converting an old game as a blog exclusive, as a thank you to people who've spent time to read my babbling. I was thinking of House of TG, but I don't think I'll be able to fine good enough graphics for that little project, so this is the perfect opportunity to say thank you everyone.

Office Politics 0.2.1

EDIT : Minor bug fixes

We have a winner!

Well results are in and it’s no surprise that Bimbo won, though it was touch and go for a while. And don’t worry I’m still going to carry on with the rest of the games; just I’m going to try and finish Bimbo first.

So I actually have a three point plan.

1)      Finish welding together the new code with the old so everything works.
2)      Add new text to the old stuff, plus a few tweaks here and there.
3)      Add new content and maybe even an end.

At the moment you can now meet with Mr Grey and travel to his office but no further, when I have enough done I’ll provide a new version.

And feeling thoughts needs and ant for the game don't hesitate to let me know.

Nandi are made out of rubber

There are some game creator who can meretriciously plan out every aspect of there game to the letter and know what to do and where they are. I'm not one of those people.

I bounce from project to project, picking thing up and down as inspiration takes me. To illustrate, and this a creative time for me, I'm bug fixing SUB Resort, putting the structure together for The Glasshouse, working out conversation trees and a rough plot breakdown for a secret project and a now and again putting together images for Tiresias. We're talking days or even hours here and there but hopefully they're eventually add up to something finished.

The flip side is that I can go months without creating anything, this normally is accompanied by feeling of guilt because people are patiently waiting for new content.

And the moral of this rambling is? Erm well that this blog will never be simply I've finished 20% of the NPC and 10% of the Plot. And just try to be patient and keep saying nice things about my work. It really does keep me going.

On other news I'm chuffed that every one of my little games is getting love, though I knew each has it's fans, and surprised just how many like Tiresias. Please keep voting and giving me feedback on what you like about the games, it helps me decide what to concentrate on when i don finally carry on working. Especially with Tiresias do people want a revamped version of the original or a complete ending as promised by the Cheerleader?

Poll Feedback

I should have probably done this when I posted up the poll, but it sorta slipped my mind. I'm curious why people have pick the game they have and what they like best about said game. So if you could please also comment below on why you choose one game over another.

Smashing the Glass Ceiling

Some of you might have remember a little game called The Glasshouse, well since then I've been trying on and off to complete the game. I've always known whats happening and how it should end.

Well one quite night at work and about four hour's work and I have the plan for a complete game, and yes it does have multiple ending.

So for once I can post a real game update, so far I have the basic layout of the first floor (Level 0) up and running and some of the NPC's in place. Talking of which here are a couple of them.

And just to prove I can work on multiple projects at a time here's a few more images for Tiresias
